One of the previous posts with a high number of visitors and views in this blog was that published in November 2021 under the title: Moss, Mould, Mildew, Algae, Lichen, Fungus in your rubber flooring?
No doubt that in some countries, when using rubber granules, this may be a common issue for areas. As I explained at that post, rubber is porous, so the mould may penetrate the surface of the rubber. I highlighted the importance of a well prepared and executed preventive cleaning maintenance plan, because this problem is usually mainly due to lack of basic cleaning.
Although Polyolefin based surfaces are less prone to suffering some of these effects, algae may be a challenge on some water applications.
PolySoft Surface Control is a formulated algaecide, designed to control algae, mould, biofilm, slime, and stains that are commonly a result of organic debris. It can be used on indoor and outdoor areas. Chemically it is a solution of quaternary salts and other active ingredients in water.

The product is classified as non-hazardous according to the criteria of SWA. The SWA is the United Nations-hosted alliance working towards a joint goal of water, sanitation and hygiene for all, always and everywhere.

For the application of the product, a preliminary cleaning with a phosphate free cleaner is recommended. You can use for this the PolySoft CONCENTRATED CLEANER diluted 40:1 with water. This will remove any surface contaminant that might disrupt effective wetting of the substrate. After this cleaning you must left the surface dry before applying the PolySoft Surface Control using a brush, sponge, cloth, mop, mechanical or trigger spray device, or by immersion to thoroughly wet the surfaces. For spray application, spray 20 to 25mm from the surface. To get a much better result, leave the algaecide overnight. Do not breathe spray. Rub surface with a brush, broom, or sponge. Change or wash cloths, sponges, or brushes frequently to avoid repositioning of soiling.
Initial application of PolySoft Surface Control is best carried out as early as possible in the day to reduce water evaporation from the sprayed surface. Application should then be repeated in the late afternoon of the same day. If staining is still evident after 7 days repeat the sprayed application, and then again at weekly intervals as necessary until all visual evidence of staining is removed.

For long term protection from algae the water at your site should be treated with certain dose of a preventive algaecide, that is available from all major suppliers of pool chemicals. The quantity depends on the type and PH of your water supply. Follow your chemical supplier recommendation.
