The VERSATEX® Non-Porous Flooring with broadcasted Polyolefin

When I was working at CONICA AG, one of the leading companies for sports high performance flooring, I learnt that the best systems for athletic tracks flooring were usually those using broadcasted small granules of EPDM. To help protect the joints, cartilage, ligaments and tendons of athletes, flooring must have the right shock absorption, but having too much vertical deformation or lack of uniformity impede the optimum performance. The optimal balance that allows the best athletes to achieve world records usually occur on a flooring of broadcasted systems. Through broadcasting it is possible to get a flooring with a great tensile strength in a quite thin layer of material.

My last post here, presented the trowelled AQUATRAK non-porous system. Today I will talk about another non-porous system that is, in this case, broadcasted. The VERSATEX® system supplied by Polysoft. Another high-performance solution as that of my previous example for athletic tracks.

Sample of Versatex mix of colours

Versatex® is a broadcasted surface, using the chemical resistant and UV stable polyolefin small 1mm pebbles into a self-levelled base coat, what allows a very low profile of around 3-4mm that makes this system perfect for retrofitting concrete or painted surfaces with optimal performances and the common bright and vibrant colours of Polysoft polyolefins.

One of the advantages of Versatex for an installer is that you can vacuum up to 40% of the excess beads which can be reused for another job of the same color blend.

Available in 18 colour pebbles and unlimited colour blends, with this system a pool deck or indoor water park, spa, gym locker room or food processing area, can have one of the best looking, resilient and hardwearing flooring solutions available in the market Worldwide.

This system can only be installed over concrete, or an approved hard surface and it’s not recommended for full submersion in water. The system build up is as follows:

  • 1. Apply a Primer
  • 2. Lay a Base Coat
  • 3. Broadcast the small beads (approx 2.5-3KG per SQM). Collect the excess.
  • 4. Apply a coat with Aliphatic polyurethane as top sealer (usually 2 coats minimum)

The beads are packaged in 14Kg / 30 Pound bags. The base layer and top coat aliphatic polyurethane are both 2 components high quality chemicals. You can check the instructions from Polysoft about the appropriate mix ratios of the base layer and top coat products.
