In the vicinity of many outdoor playgrounds and at several schools there is usually a ball game area, protected by closed anti-vandal fences of wood or steel that include goal posts and baskets for various sports, in which children can practice multiple games with balls, with the advantage of fences keeping the ball in play and avoiding the risks of hitting and damaging other children.

These areas are known as Multi Sport Areas or MUGAs (Multi-Use Game Areas). They may have different dimensions, enclosures and configurations and my have markings for different sports. The most common sizes are between 150 and 1.000 m2 with a few of them arriving up to 2.500 m2.
The flooring in these areas may be natural grass, artificial grass, tarmac, concrete or synthetic rubber surfaces. Some activities may require a concrete sub-base below the main synthetic surfacing to achieve a proper ball rebound.

CONICA group is specialized in all kind of flooring. Although we are mainly known for high level Sport Flooring we have also great solutions for MUGAs.
Our certified Sport solutions with different systems and technologies are mainly focused on regulated amateur and professional sports, so they may in some cases exceed the requirements and available budget, but we have also different wetpour rubber alternatives within CONICA group or from our Worldwide network of PLAYTOP licensees.
The use of concrete or tarmac (asphalt) may generate a lot of noise and complaints from neighbours and also wounds, abrasions, and other fall damage occuring during gameplay. On areas with intense activity natural grass is not feasible mid-term. That leaves as only viable alternatives the synthetic grass and wetpour rubber alternatives.
The main wetpour rubber systems are:
- single layer of 20 mm over concrete or asphalt sub-base, using EPDM, TPV, coated SBR, recycled rubber mixes or, in case of our PLAYTOP licensees, the amazing Nike-Grind blends.
- two layer solutions over compacted stone sub-base, using a SBR cushion layer of 25 mm and a top layer of 15 mm with the same kind of materials of the previous single layer solution.
These surfacing jobs may be done manually or using small paving machines as there are no posts of equipment that would make paving machines somewhat inefficient.
Our Playtop Licensess may install this kind of surfacing in 31 colours and unlimited variety of customised blends. This means you can customize your court to match your tastes. From traditional game colours to designs meeting your venue or school branding. Long lasting game lines can even be built into the design offering a cost-effective and permanent solution over painted.
Having contained areas for these games improve fitness within early teen age groups and are ideal for urban areas where children can play safely and explore the potential of different sports.
