One of the great advantages of wetpour rubber flooring is its reduced maintenance requirements, when compared to other types of safety flooring such as loose elements or tiles, but I am afraid that some owners or operators take that idea too much to the extreme, based on the appearance of some areas I’ve visited.
At the very least, to maintain a good appearance, the surface must be kept clean of visible foreign objects, such as leaves, vegetable bark, animal debris, waste, etc.
The accumulation of organic debris over a long period of time results in stains, discoloration, algae, moss, or fungus, making the area slippery.
In shady, humid, and low-traffic areas, where the risk of moss or algae formation is greater, if we allow spore germination, subsequent cleaning becomes much more complicated, specially when the multiplication of spores has shot up.
The accumulation of dust or sand also clogs the pores that ensure water permeability and impairs the drainage capacity of the surface. From that moment on, the rain can cause puddles that make it difficult to use the area after the rain and damage the materials reducing the useful life of the flooring.
It is enough to sweep the surface every day, every week or every month, depending on the level of use and the conditions of the place to avoid a much more complex annual cleaning job.
Some operators leave everything to annual cleaning, but doing this, damage is often unavoidable. Of course, if this damage is too evident you can use one of CONICA top coats that can be pigmented to an end colour to give some new life to the flooring and I’m happy with you buying our products, but I can tell you, this will be more expensive than keeping a regular cleaning plan.
To end this post, please follow the guidelines of your material’s suppliers regarding cleaning and preventive maintenance and about all, do not experiment with untested products.
